Change Management

When embarking on a major change programme, which might be initiated, for example, by a merger or acquisition, or some other strategic event, it is important to realise that different people react differently to change, based on their own fundamental needs. People's expectations need to be managed realistically; fears have to be understood and dealt with.

At CGA we believe that the best way to deal with the inevitable uncertainty that accompanies change is to act fast. You need to communicate your intentions openly and honestly, without giving overly optimistic speculation. A good communication strategy ensures information is disseminated efficiently and comprehensively to everyone and helps to prevent your program from being undermined by rumour and scaremongering. You need to tell everyone at the same time, and then follow up with individual interviews where necessary.

However, with speed comes the increasing risk that something will go wrong before you know what is happening. It is essential that you maintain good management practices, even though the additional pressure might tempt you to let such things slip.

The only way to prevent this is by the application of experience.
